Replaces the manual crank and mounting brackets used in a wand style Coolaroo outdoor shade screen. The worm drive supplied with the Coolaroo shade is attached to the step motor through a flex coupling. Step motor connects to the Controller Assembly with 4 conductor low voltage cable (not included). Designed to mount to the inside surface of a wood support beam but can also be mounted to masonry surfaces. Works with Coolaroo shades 4, 6, 8 and 10ft wide and 10 ft high.

Dual Step Motor Chopper Drive Shield for Arduino Uno – Autoshade 100105

Originally developed for prototyping the shade screen controller this chopper drive Arduino Uno Shield provides up to 2 amps current controlled power to any dual winding step motor. Voltage rating is 12 VDC. Two separate drives are contained on each shield and each shield may be programmed for up to 4 different I2C addresses allowing up to 8 step motors to be controlled.

Shade Screen Automation

Automate your Coolaroo shade screens so you never need to crank them up or down by hand again. The project will likely require 1 or 2 weekends to convert your shades to step motor drives using the 10114 conversion kits, install the controller 100113 and run the required low voltage cabling.

Parts that are not included are easily ordered or obtained locally. The NMEA box for the controller electronics and the cabling are best ordered from McMaster Carr. The cabling can be simply stapled in place, but a much neater looking installation is to use 1/2×3/4 rectangular plastic conduit that can be bought locally (for example at Home Depot). No special or unusual tools or skills are required to do the installation. If you are unsure whether you can undertake this project, please download the User Manual and read the section on Installation.

The chopper drive shield was developed for use in a prototype of the controller. Instructions are given that let you duplicate the controller as an Arduino based prototype, but the controller sold above includes all of that and is equivalent to an Arduino Uno Rev 3 logic board, real time clock shield, (3) dual motor driver shields and a 16×2 LCD color display and keypad – all on one circuit board with heat sinking to a base plate for installation in the NMEA housing.
